Like many parts of Miami, this area of the Central District suffers from poorly conceived infrastructure, which has inhibited its subsequent development. Our master plan aimed to give it a coherent new framework for the twenty-first century.

We want that existing transport infrastructure can provide a powerful catalyst for wider urban renewal, always considering the presence of the Miami Medical Centre District and the 836 Highway, as well as the railway service support located three blocks towards the South.

The Central District Miami is located just beyond the Medical Centre, and we assume that the new city grid was intended to have its own street pattern. The landscape strategy for the scheme has been designed as a sort of oscillation between existing and new grids. The new trees will be planted according to the new grid, but always considering the existing trees and the correct distances between them.

The history of Miami is the history of change. Cities evolve as they are subject to the shifting patterns in the way that we work, live, play, shop, communicate and travel. In the past, cities were more balanced, with richer mixes of use and closer community ties. Central District Miami is a conscious attempt to learn from the failures and successes of the past and create a thriving new urban quarter.

The development culminates in different mid size towers, some of them for living and some others for offices destinies and hotel facilities.

The Central Plaza is a very powerful generator for green initiatives in the whole area. The design is about the new buildings and the ways in which they balance each other. The urban plan has a wonderful advantage of still being near the Centre and is true inner city renewal: it utilizes existing land near to the heart of the things.

The resolution of the master plan is the push and pull between conservation, new buildings, park, roads, gateway and railway station / and 836 Highway. What is new about Miami District Centre is the rigor it brings to the analysis of spatial configuration and views and the predictions about movement and use.

Central District Miami great strength is in predicting the movement through a street and so either confirming that the character of each space will be as intended or guiding the design changes to ensure it.
